Writer & Systems Engineer
Southern by geography, not by sentimentality.
I write about the places that shaped me, the people who raised me, and the moments that nearly took me out. My work comes from lived experience — job sites, airports, backroads, expat compounds, and the quiet spaces in between.
"I never felt like my life was an accident. It was just waiting on me to catch up."
— Brandt N. Hubbard
About
I was born and raised in Alabama, the kind of place where you learn early how to work, how to keep your head down, and how to find humor in situations that aren't funny. I spent the first part of my life in small towns, the second part traveling the world as a systems engineer, and somewhere in the middle I started understanding the story I had been carrying.
I've worked in places most people only see on the news — Karachi, Antananarivo, Lagos, Dubai — installing equipment, fixing problems, and trying to stay out of trouble. Those years gave me a front-row seat to chaos, beauty, danger, and the strange ways people show up for each other.
I live in Alabama with my partner, Wayne, and the kitties who found us. When I'm not writing, I'm usually driving one of my Trans Ams, organizing something that doesn't need organizing, or trying to keep my life as simple as possible.
The Book
A Memoir
A Memoir from Fifteen Countries and Centreville, Alabama
A baby who wasn't supposed to make it. A child who pushed his luck. A teenager who refused to stay where he was put. A young man trying to find out why he was spared. An adult who is grateful, every single day, that he was.
I never felt neglected.
I know now he was just trying to keep me alive until kindergarten started.
